Joy P. Campbell

In my art I try to explore the various impulses or recurring themes in my life, using a very free-associative process. Often I begin a picture only to find the piece painting itself, changing its composition, making improbable choices that surprise and please me.

I employ  a lot of personal symbolism, again, not always premeditated.  I seem particularly drawn to the house, which for me symbolizes not just a dwelling but an ongoing meditation on what it means to be home: is home a physical place? A sensation of belonging and community? Is it self-awareness?  Is it something we can ever attain? Or is it something we have within us always, waiting to be discovered?

I hope my art connects with you on your own journey.  Thank you for stopping by.
